Golden hour and a homestay night in Kanyam
Stay when the day visitors leave: a late-afternoon walk in the empty garden, dinner with a local family or at a simple lodge, and a quiet night in the tea hills before an early start.

Most visitors to Kanyam stop for an hour and drive on. By about 4 pm the buses have gone and the garden belongs to the pickers walking home and the people who live here. This is the time to walk the rows again, with low sun across the clipped tea and long shadows from the shade trees. On many evenings the mist arrives just after sunset, filling the hollows and leaving the hilltops above it.
We book you into a simple lodge or homestay in Kanyam or nearby. Dinner is home-style: rice, dal, seasonal greens, a pickle, perhaps chicken or pork, and milk tea. If you stay with a family, you eat with them in the kitchen and can ask about their work in tea and farming. Evenings are quiet, with little to do after dark but talk and sleep, and the mist often rolls in after dark.
The night sets you up for Antu Danda at sunrise or an early, empty walk in the garden. It suits couples, photographers and anyone who wants a slow day between Ilam and the plains. In the morning, we either drive up to Antu Danda before dawn or walk the rows at first light, then have breakfast and continue to Ilam, Bhadrapur or the market towns of Fikkal and Pashupatinagar.
