Api and Saipal are the giants of the far west, both over 7,000 m, rising in Darchula and Bajhang on the northern horizon. From Ramaroshan you see them across a sea of ridges, and on clear autumn mornings they glow pink and then white as the sun comes up.

Your guide will choose a ridge or open meadow above the lakes with a clear northern view, a short walk from where you sleep. Start in the dark with a headtorch, and wrap up warmly: it is often near freezing at dawn in October and November.

October and November give the clearest air, after the monsoon has washed the haze away. In spring the view is often hazy by mid-morning but can be clear at first light. Bring a thermos of tea and a camera with a zoom lens.

Questions

Which mountains can I see from Ramaroshan?

On clear days, the snow peaks of Api and Saipal to the north, both over 7,000 m, along with the long ridges of the far western hills. The best views are at sunrise in October and November.

How cold is it at Ramaroshan at sunrise?

In October and November, dawn temperatures are often close to freezing at about 2,500 m, and wind on the ridges makes it feel colder. Bring a warm jacket, hat and gloves. Spring mornings are a little milder.

Is the sunrise viewpoint far from the lakes?

No. Your guide will pick a ridge or meadow with a clear northern view, usually within an hour's walk of where you stay. The path is easy but dark at that hour, so use a headtorch and follow your guide.
