Ridge walk to Ramkot Magar village
Follow the ridge west from Bandipur through forest and terraces to Ramkot, a Magar village of traditional round and oval houses with thatched roofs, mud walls painted in red and white, and wide views to the Himalaya.

Bandipur was a Magar village before the Newar traders came, and Ramkot shows what the ridge once looked like. The walk leaves the bazaar heading west, past Tundikhel and through forest and terraced fields, with small temples and resting platforms on the way. It takes about 2–3 hours one way at an easy pace.
Ramkot's traditional houses are distinctive: rounded or oval in plan, with mud and stone walls washed in red and white and thatched roofs, set among orange and banana trees. Families grow maize, millet and vegetables, keep goats and buffalo, and have relatives in the army or working abroad. Some families host visitors through a village homestay programme.
Walk respectfully through the village, ask before photographing people and homes, and buy tea or a snack from a local shop. Return the same way to Bandipur, or arrange a jeep to collect you if the road is open. In clear weather the Himalaya forms the backdrop the whole way.
