Short trek to Pikey Peak for the Everest skyline
A short trek west from Phaplu through Sherpa villages and rhododendron forest to Pikey Peak, about 4,065 m, for a sunrise panorama from Everest and Makalu to Numbur and the Rolwaling Himal. Low altitude, few trekkers and good lodges in villages.

Pikey Peak is a grassy, prayer-flagged summit in the hills west of Phaplu and one of the best viewpoints in the lower Everest region. Because it is just over 4,000 m and reached through villages rather than high glaciers, it suits travellers who want mountain views without the altitude and length of the Everest Base Camp trek.
Routes vary, but a typical trek runs 4–6 days, starting by road towards Dhap or from Phaplu itself, through Sherpa and Tamang villages, yak pastures and forests of rhododendron, which flower in March and April. The final climb to the summit is done before dawn from a lodge or camp below, gaining a few hundred metres to the top.
At sunrise the view spreads across the eastern Himalaya: Everest, Lhotse and Makalu to the north-east, Numbur, Karyolung and the Rolwaling peaks closer by. The descent can loop through Junbesi and its monasteries before returning to Phaplu. Lodges are simple and family-run. Check current status before you travel, as road access to the trailheads changes as roads extend.

Questions
How high is Pikey Peak?
Pikey Peak is about 4,065 m, much lower than Everest Base Camp. That makes altitude sickness less likely, though still possible on the summit day. The trek takes 4–6 days from Phaplu or nearby roadheads, through Sherpa and Tamang villages and rhododendron forests.
Can I see Everest from Pikey Peak?
Yes, on a clear morning. Everest, Lhotse and Makalu are visible to the north-east, along with Numbur, Karyolung and the Rolwaling peaks closer by. October to December gives the clearest views. Spring, March and April, brings rhododendron flowers but often hazier skies.
Is the Pikey Peak trek good for beginners?
Yes. It is one of the gentler Himalayan treks: short, with moderate days and a maximum altitude of about 4,065 m. Reasonable fitness is enough. Lodges are basic but welcoming. It is a good introduction to trekking in Nepal and works well for families and older walkers.
