Kailash and Manasarovar from the Lapcha La
Climb to the Lapcha La on the Tibetan border above the Limi valley, where on a clear day the view opens across to Lake Manasarovar and the snow dome of Mount Kailash, the holy mountain of four faiths.

The Lapcha La lies on the Nepal–Tibet border at the eastern end of the Limi valley. It is reached by a long day's walk or ride from Jang, gaining height over open, dry slopes. Nearby, a rough road crosses the border towards Taklakot.
From the pass, on a clear day, the land drops away into the Tibetan plateau and Lake Manasarovar shines in the distance, with the dome of Mount Kailash beyond. For Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Bon followers Kailash is the most sacred mountain on earth, and many trekkers find the view deeply moving.
Start early, as cloud often builds by midday. Carry warm and windproof clothing, water and lunch. Stay on the Nepali side of the border at all times, and follow your guide's instructions near border posts.

Questions
Can you really see Kailash from Nepal?
Yes. From the Lapcha La on the border at the end of the Limi valley, on a clear day, you can see Lake Manasarovar and the distant dome of Mount Kailash. The view depends on weather, so allow a spare day in Jang.
Can I cross into Tibet at the Lapcha La?
No. Foreign visitors cannot cross the border at the Lapcha La on a Limi trek. The official crossing for Kailash tours is at Hilsa, with a Chinese group visa and Tibet permits arranged by an authorised agency.
How high is the Lapcha La?
It is a high border pass, well above the villages of the Limi valley, and published heights vary. Your guide will plan the climb with acclimatisation in mind. Expect cold wind and thin air, and turn back if anyone feels unwell.
