To the Gaumukhi cave and spring
A short walk from the ashram through ridge-top forest to the Gaumukhi cave, where Swami Hamsananda is believed to have meditated, and the spring named for a cow's mouth.

Beyond the main temples, paths lead along the ridge through oak and rhododendron forest. One goes to the Gaumukhi cave, a rock shelter where the ashram's founder is said to have meditated, and to the spring beside it, whose shape gives it the name cow's mouth.
Pilgrims stop to drink and collect the water, light incense in the cave and sit for a few minutes. Your guide tells the stories devotees share about Swami Hamsananda's life and the Pandavas' stay on the ridge.
The walk is short but uneven, with some steep steps. It gives a quiet hour away from the crowds at the yagya kunda.

Questions
What is the Gaumukhi cave at Swargadwari?
Gaumukhi is a cave near the Swargadwari ashram where Swami Hamsananda, the founder, is believed to have meditated. A spring nearby is called Gaumukhi, the cow's mouth. Pilgrims visit both after worshipping at the main temples.
Is the walk to the cave difficult?
It is a short walk from the ashram, usually under an hour each way, on forest paths with uneven ground and some steep steps. Anyone reasonably mobile can manage it with care. Wear shoes with good grip, especially after rain.
Is the Gaumukhi spring water safe to drink?
Pilgrims drink it as sacred water, but untreated spring water can carry bacteria. If you want to take part, a sip is a personal choice; for drinking, treat it first with tablets or a filter, or use bottled water. Collecting a small bottle to take home is common.
