Rhododendron forest walk to Tadapani
Climb about 600 m from Ghandruk through dense rhododendron and oak forest to the clearing of Tadapani at around 2,630 m, red with blossom in spring, and look back across the valley to Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre.

Tadapani means far water in Nepali, and the clearing sits high on a ridge. The trail from Ghandruk leaves the upper village and climbs steadily on stone steps and earth paths into forest, the trees getting taller and the moss thicker as you rise. Langur monkeys sometimes crash through the canopy.
In March and April this is one of the finest rhododendron walks in Nepal. The lali gurans, tree rhododendron and national flower, turns the forest red, with pink and white varieties higher up. In autumn the forest is green and the views clearer. Either way, take it slowly; there are tea houses along the way.
At Tadapani a few lodges stand around a clearing with a view of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre. Stay the night for sunrise and continue to Ghorepani and Poon Hill the next day, or return to Ghandruk in about two hours.

Is the Ghandruk to Tadapani trail safe?
Yes, it is a busy trekking trail with no exposure, but it passes through dense forest where there have been rare reports of robbery against walkers alone. Walk with your licensed guide, as Nepal requires for foreign trekkers in the Annapurna Conservation Area, and avoid walking late in the day. Stone steps are slippery after rain.
