Hotel Srinagar sits above Tansen on the crest of the Mahabharat range, about 4 km by the link road from the town centre. It has been run by the same family for around 50 years and is often described as the first three-star hotel in Nepal's western hills. Its greatest asset is the view: on clear mornings from October to February the terrace looks straight across to Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna range, with Tansen's rooftops below.

The hotel is a short walk from the pine forest of Srinagar Danda, which makes sunrise easy. The trade-off is distance from the old bazaar; you will need a taxi or a 30-minute walk downhill to reach Sitalpati and the workshops. Rooms are simple and comfortable, and meals are served in the hotel restaurant.

Why we use it

  • Terrace views of Dhaulagiri and the Annapurnas at sunrise

Questions

Can you see the Himalaya from Hotel Srinagar?

Yes, on clear days. From the hotel terrace you can see Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna range to the north, best at sunrise and sunset from October to February. From April haze often hides the peaks, and from June to September the monsoon usually brings cloud.

How far is Hotel Srinagar from Tansen bazaar?

The hotel is about 4 km by road from the centre of Tansen, on the slope of Srinagar Danda. A taxi takes around 10–15 minutes. Walking down to Sitalpati square takes about 30 minutes on steep paths, and longer coming back uphill.

Is Hotel Srinagar a good base for Rani Mahal and Ridi?

Yes. Tansen is the usual base for day trips to Rani Mahal on the Kali Gandaki and to the temple town of Ridi, and the hotel can help arrange jeeps. If you book with us, we arrange a driver and guide for these trips and time them around the sunrise view.
