Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge

A lodge on the edge of Amaltari village in Nawalpur, built in the style of Tharu longhouses with mud-plastered walls, on the western side of Chitwan National Park. Its naturalists lead drives, walks and river trips, and the Tharu village is right outside the gate.

Tiger Tops is one of the oldest names in Nepal's wildlife tourism, and its Tharu Lodge sits beside Amaltari on the western edge of Chitwan National Park, in Nawalpur district. The buildings take their form from the Tharu longhouse, with long, low wings and mud-plastered walls, set among rice fields and gardens.

Naturalists lead jeep drives into the western sector of the park, guided walks, river trips on the Narayani and visits to the village, where Tharu and Bote families live and farm. The lodge is a good choice for travellers who want comfort, expert guiding and a strong connection with village life. It usually closes for part of the monsoon; check dates when booking.
