Walk from Chisapani to Nagarkot
A long day's walk east from Chisapani through farm villages and forest along the valley rim to the hill resort of Nagarkot, for a second sunrise. A classic two-day loop from Kathmandu. Expect ups and downs rather than one big climb.

From Chisapani the trail drops east through terraced farmland to Chauki Bhanjyang and Jhule, small Tamang and Brahmin villages where life follows the farming year. You walk on village paths and some dirt roads, past houses with maize hanging under the eaves and buffaloes in the yards. The villages along the way see fewer trekkers than the Helambu trail itself, and people are curious and friendly. Tea shops are simple; your guide will know which ones serve a good lunch of dal bhat or noodles. Carry enough water for the stretches between them.
The route then climbs again through pine and rhododendron forest along the rim of the Kathmandu Valley to Nagarkot at about 2,100 m. It is longer than the walk up from Sundarijal, 6 to 7 hours, with ups and downs rather than one big climb. In spring this part of the walk is bright with rhododendrons, and in winter the views north to the Himalaya follow you much of the way. Some sections follow jeep roads, which are dusty in dry months, but the forest trail near Nagarkot is shaded and pleasant.
Nagarkot has many hotels and a viewpoint tower for sunrise, with a broad Himalayan view from Langtang east toward the Everest ranges on very clear days. Next morning, drive back to Kathmandu in about 1.5 hours or walk down to Bhaktapur. From Nagarkot you are only about 30 km from Kathmandu, so this walk turns Chisapani into a tidy two-day loop with two sunrise views. It is a good option for travellers who want a taste of trekking without committing to a full week in the hills.
