Sunrise over the Himalaya from Nagarkot
Rise before dawn, walk or drive to the view tower or a ridge viewpoint, and watch the Himalaya appear in the first light from Ganesh Himal to the Rolwaling peaks. Your guide names each peak as it turns pink, then gold.

We meet in the hotel lobby around 5.30 am in autumn and winter, earlier in spring. Wrapped in warm layers, we walk or drive a short way to the view tower at the top of the ridge, or to a quieter viewpoint nearby. Hot tea from a flask helps against the cold.
As the sky lightens in the east, the mountains appear in the north as faint shapes, then sharpen. The first peaks to catch the sun glow pink, then gold. Your guide names them as they appear: Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, the broad snowy bulk of Dorje Lakpa, Gaurishankar, and on very clear days the far peaks towards Everest.
Below, the valleys are often filled with mist that slowly burns away. We stay until the light flattens, around an hour after sunrise, then return for breakfast. If the weather is cloudy, we try again the next day, or at sunset, when views can also clear.

Questions
Can you see Everest from Nagarkot?
On very clear days, Everest can be seen far to the east as a small point among other peaks, but it is hard to pick out and often hidden by haze. The clearest close views from Nagarkot are of Langtang, Dorje Lakpa, Gaurishankar and the Rolwaling peaks. October to February mornings are best.
What time is sunrise at Nagarkot?
Sunrise ranges from about 5.15 am in June to about 6.50 am in January. Be at the viewpoint 20 to 30 minutes before, when the peaks start to show colour. Your hotel can give you the exact time for your date.
What is the best month for Nagarkot views?
October and November are best, with clear, dry air after the monsoon. December to February are also good, though colder, with frost at dawn. From March, haze builds, and from June to September monsoon cloud usually hides the mountains.
